Other kids, who have established a reputation for being bright (even though underachieving), disciplined, and involved in respectable activities, who are mobile and moneyed, will be invisible when they deviate from sanctioned activities.

The fascination with black bodies is a long history of white supremacy that discards the humanity of both black men and women but has largely ignored violence toward black women while celebrating violence toward black men (Savali, 2014).

White perpetrators of crimes are almost never portrayed the same by media in comparison with minorities. A recent story by CNN (Kohn, 2015) was one of the few commentary published on double standards of coverage by media on events by race.

Neither anecdotal nor hard data can convey the overwhelming sense of powerlessness which invades the individual as he is continually exposed to the depersonalization of the psychiatric hospital. . . . Powerlessness was evident everywhere.

With their growing alienation came freer expression of disrespect and hostility for representatives of the legitimate society. This disrespect increased the communitys negativism, perpetuating the entire process of commitment to deviance.

In contrast, whites are more optimistic regarding race relations these days (Wang, 2014). Blacks are also more skeptical of police shootings of minorities than whites and more likely to believe race to be a central factor in the shootings.

His personal hygiene and waste evacuation are often monitored. The [toilets] may have no doors. At times, depersonalization reached such proportions that pseudo patients had the sense that they were invisible, or at least unworthy of account.

The propensity position can be defined by the assumption that a single, latent dimension determines all measures of offending. In contrast, the criminal career model implies that distinct latent causal dimensions underlie different measures.

The eight pseudo patients were a varied group. One was a psychology graduate student in his 20s. The remaining seven were older and established. Among them were three psychologists, a pediatrician, a psychiatrist, a painter, and a housewife.

Al, the other boy who did not finish high school, also left the state in his senior year. He is serving a life sentence in a state penitentiary for first degree murder. Wes is a small-time gambler. He finished high school and bummed around.
