As you answer these questions, please know that you are NEVER graded or judged based on the content of your diet or anything like that. I am looking to read about your utilization of the class concepts that we have discussed in your analysis. As this assignment has been created with the goal of personal growth, if you feel like it will be harmful for you, you can always discuss a fictitious person, or complete the alternative assessment listed below. 🙂

Question 24: Analysis of YOUR Diet Analysis Reports:

Based on YOUR reports, list at least 3 overall changes could you make to improve YOUR dietary profile.
Explain the health implication of each change, and the mechanism of action for how this change will lead to the desired health outcome, or reduction of disease risk

If you are making a larger claim, such as “consume more energy”, please be sure to specify where you should you retrieve this energy from based on what macronutrients and specifically which vitamins and minerals are lacking in your diet report

Include specific food substitutions, deletions and additions you could make (and for what reason).

For example, “To increase my fiber intake, I could substitute oatmeal for scrambled eggs at breakfast. This change will help to …….”

Include physical activity report only if you are including exercise as a goal and explain about the physical activity (MIEs and types of exercise, not just “to exercise”).

A sample paragraph for just one change would look like the following (You will not receive credit for copying the following):

According to my dietary reports, I am deficient in the nutrient sodium. Although many Americans struggle with various chronic illnesses which can be tracked to excess sodium intake, intake in reduced amounts can have serious implications to one’s health as well. As sodium is a large regulator of fluid balance in the body, and is an extracellular cation, which works largely in combination with potassium to ensure the intracellular and extracellular portion of water distribution is balanced, intake at lower than sufficient quantities can lead to cellular swelling and a plethora of other side effects such as: nausea, vomiting, headache and confusion. In my current intake, I tend to consume a lot of water, while avoiding processed foods, which is a good thing, however to increase my sodium levels, I should aim to intake a little bit more whole food sources of sodium, such as dry roasted sunflower seeds or smoked whitefish. I can also consume electrolyte water to help boost my electrolyte stores. Failing to increase my sodium intake can result in dangerous conditions such as, brain swelling, coma or even death in extreme cases of hyponatremia.

*Note* – sodium deficiency (hyponatremia), is not a common effect of dietary deficiency of the nutrient alone in the United States, often there is an underlying issue/excess water consumption which can influence sodium levels in the body

Question 25

(5 points) In a thorough paragraph (usually a length of at least 10-12 sentences), summarize the main strengths of performing your overall analysis. Include 2-3 sentences to comment specifically on use of iProfile to track your diet. If you have ever used a different diet analysis program, how does iProfile compare? Importantly, do you see a particular pattern in the way you eat when you think about what you found as your risks which are in your family tree, or the nutritionally-related reasons for death for those living in the United States (assignment 2)? Lastly, comment on any additions or suggestions and/or omissions would you recommend be included in a future diet analysis assignment?
