English Postcolonial Literature Questions

Instructions (read carefully):  For your test, create a Word Document and upload it to the link below by deadline. Attempt to answer all of the questions below. Do not repeat the question in your paper, but please number each answer.
Each question should be answered specifically and clearly in two fully-developed paragraphs per question. You should support your points with evidence from the relevant texts.
All answers should be your own interpretations, in your own words. You may NOT use any secondary sources of any sort, except for materials I have provided in the course. In that case, use the secondary sources sparingly and paraphrase, quote, and cite them properly. Your own analysis and discussion should predominate throughout.
Questions: Read each question carefully and answer all parts of each question as specifically and clearly as possible in two (2) paragraphs each. Do not repeat yourself from one answer to the other. Answer all five (5) questions.
1. In broad lines and in your own words, explain some of the elements of Somali history that we covered in class (and in the PowerPoints) that help you to understand Nuruddin Farahs novel Maps. Also, explain why the title Maps is relevant to Somalias colonial/postcolonial history.
2. In your own words, identify a major theme in Nuruddin Farahs Maps and discuss how the theme is  developed through the development of the characters and their relationships.
3. In your own words, how does the Mohsin Hamids overall purpose or theme in How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia relate to the device of the self-help novel, the use of you narration, and the fact that characters and places are unnamed?
4. In your own words, briefly explain the concept of globalization and then discuss its relevance to Mohsin Hamids How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia.
5. How has your sense of postcolonial literature developed in the course of the semester? What do you see as the value of studying postcolonial literature or of examining literature through a postcolonial lens?
