Trending Dilemmas in The News

 Write a 5-paragraph opinion piece 

Paragraph 1: Very briefly summarize a story that has appeared in the news no earlier than Nov. 27.
Paragraph 2: Explain why this particular story exemplifies a larger trend in ethical dilemmas (either of the me or we kind) that we will likely face in the future. It may be just one story, but explain why there are likely to be many stories like it to come in the next decade or two. Therefore, how the story suggests (a) and (b) choices for a trending dilemma.
Paragraph 3:   Say what you think without injuring for then you injure your own heart(Ancient Egyptian Reading, Chap 10.02). Use this quote and show how it would guide action in the direction of the first option (a), indicating the importance of the value or principle in addressing not only this story but a larger trend that the story represents.
Paragraph 4: Present one of the quotes from the following and show how it would guide action in the direction of the second option (b), indicating the importance of the value or principle in addressing not only this story but a larger trend that the story represents.

 “The ancients who wished to illustrate illustrious virtue throughout the kingdom, first ordered well their own states,”(Confucius)

Aware of the suffering created by fanaticism and intolerance, we are determined not to be idolatrous about or bound to any doctrine, theory, or ideology, even Buddhist ones (Hanh, par. 1). 
 We are determined not to accumulate wealth while millions are hungry and dying nor to take as the aim of our life fame, power, wealth, or sensual pleasure, which can bring much suffering and despair (Hanh, par. 5). 
We will do our best to select a livelihood that contributes to the wellbeing of all species on earth and helps realize our ideal of understanding and compassion (Hanh, par. 11). 
 “For since the universal nature has made rational animals for the sake of one another to help one another according to their deserts, but in no way to injure one another, he who transgresses her will, is clearly guilty of impiety towards the highest divinity” (Aurelius).

Paragraph 5: Present a value or principle of your own, in your own words, and show how it would guide action toward one of the options, therefore, agreeing with one of the choices above but disagreeing with the other. State briefly a defense of your contribution to the storehouse of wisdom. And state briefly why you find it ethically preferable to the competing alternative. Be sure to show how your evaluation pertains to the ethical values and principles involved, not just the outcome. And say why you think it is ethically preferable to meet the trending dilemma in this way.
