World Literature

DB19 1.
Post a single unduplicated sentence from the story. Choose one that is significant to the story.
This can hold your reservation so you can return later to do Step 2.
yes, read all prior posts so you do not duplicate.

2. Post a 50-word
defense of
why the sentence was chosen. Third-person.

3. Critique a peer’s
post. Reserve.  One person
per critique.  What is a critique? It is NOT a criticism. It is an evaluation of
effectiveness. Does it lead to a thesis?
Does it stay within word limitations? Is it coherent and cogent? Does it
honor the intent?

DB20 Economic self-interest.

Scapegoating.

Nationalism.

Single voice.

Transference.

“Pure” race
consciousness.

Worship.

These poems
represent lost lives, forever tortured lives, a homeland, and “never again.” 6
million Jews. 6 million others> political dissidents, Jehovah’s Witnesses,
gypsies, handicapped, elderly, the young, and the frail.

This can happen
again.

Remember a line
or phrase. You may need it someday. Enter it as your “stake” in humanity.

DB22 How would you
have changed this story and why?
100-word maximum. Lead with a targeted thesis that explicitly states the
scenario.

DB27 This short story has enough symbols that if they were
eggs, the floor would be a slippery mess. (I do try to make these prompts sound
alive.)

Why are they there?  Because this is feminist literature from a
country that has a culture of placing women in subservient roles.  Having said that, there are always
exceptions.  This story is not one of
them.

It has the nuance and
intensity of the experience. It has a clear storyline and shows the
machinations of some marriages. It has lying to protect revelation.  It has come from behind kids making good. It
has a jealous husband. It has a poor sense of self-being negated.

Look at the 16 symbols:  elevator, stairs, storm, Spring, water, audition, Natsuo (means Summer life), acting, Yusuke (means easeful
support),
Spring Storm (means revelation), rain, a metaphor with the Rosalinis and
Bergmans, scriptwriter,
director, changes as in smoking, musical play.

Take all of these
symbols and make a crossword puzzle. Use a related clue in terms specific to
this story (interpretation). The idea is to have fun and yet see the
relationships and how the story “works.”

There are Internet sites that can set up the pile of words for you.
These may or may not be of value to you.
These are a start to finding a site to suit that does not charge.

DB28 Offers
a new ending to the novel.

●      Retain the essential tone and
characterization.

●      Make it fit.

●      Make is responsible.

●      Show control over the novel.

This
is NOT an essay.

Build from this
line prompt:

I removed my dress, folding it piece by piece and
laying it on a large boulder on the riverbank. Unclothed, I slipped into the
current. Now build a new ending
working with your vision after the prompt.

Follow these
directions carefully.

DB29 Choose one of
the following characters or things.

Reserve it on the
subject line.  Verify before you post
because there are to be no duplications.

Begin your post with:  I am
XXXXX and I am significant to Farming of Bones because…….  Then develop a 150-word discussion of why the
I is significant to Farming of
Bones. This is your character or thing’s voice. Use the first person
throughout the essay.

●
Offer evidence.

●
Offer detail.

●
Offer critical thinking.

●
Offer a vital quote or partial quote or two. (Does not count to the
word total.)

●      Speak in the first
person.

Include WC without
quotes.

Suggested approach:   go through the novel page by page and note
wherever your “I” is mentioned.
Analyze.  Now consider the
significance.  Even if your “I”
is barely mentioned, how does such impact the unfolding of the story?  Everything in a quality work of literature
has a reason for being.  It is your job
to honor that.
